WATCH HER VIDEO BELOW: A Mother, A Secret, And R10,000: The Day An “Old Woman” Broke The Internet

She did not look like someone chasing fame. Wrapped in a modest dress, hands folded tightly on her lap, eyes avoiding the lens — she looked like someone’s mother waiting at a clinic queue. Someone’s aunt who never misses Sunday service. Someone who worries about grocery prices and electricity tokens.

But last week, that same woman — believed to be in her late 50s — walked into the offices of African Casting, and unknowingly walked straight into a storm.

By the time she walked out, the internet was already waiting.

“I Just Wanted To Build My House”

When we finally managed to speak to her, her voice trembled — not from guilt, but from heartbreak. “The real reason I went there,” she said softly, “is because I want to build my own house. I have no money right now.”

According to her, she had heard that attendees receive R10,000 after each interview. For someone trying to escape backyard renting and years of housing insecurity, that amount sounded like a miracle.

She is a mother. A provider. A woman who has likely sacrificed her entire life for her children.

Asked about her exact age, she hesitated. “I can’t say,” she whispered, smiling shyly at the camera. Perhaps it wasn’t about numbers. Perhaps it was about dignity.

“Too Old For Modeling”

Sources close to the situation say that although the owner of the agency — Ivo Suzee — allegedly became intimate with her, she was later informed that she was “too old” for modeling.

Too old. After everything. The rejection reportedly came after the encounter — leaving her not only disqualified, but emotionally shattered.

Sunday Is Her Favourite Day

In the interview clip, she was asked about her favourite day of the week. “Sunday,” she replied almost instantly. “Because I get to relax with my friends.”

There was something painfully human about that answer. Not Friday. Not payday. Not a glamorous event. Sunday.

The day of rest. The day of church. The day mothers cook big meals and laugh with neighbours.

The Shock That Broke Her

She says she was promised that her interview footage would only be shown privately to producers, modeling scouts, and directors.

“It was supposed to be private,” she insisted. Instead, the video is now circulating online — showing her in a compromising situation engaging with Ivo from African Casting.

The same so-called agency that authorities have reportedly warned the public about in recent weeks. Now, her biggest fear isn’t the internet. It’s her family.

“I can’t face them,” she admitted. “Even though I was doing it for them.”

What Would You Do?

Let’s pause. What would you do if you opened your phone and saw your mother trending online in such circumstances?

Would you judge her? Or would you ask what desperation drove her there?

Because here’s the truth — housing insecurity in South Africa is real. Many families have been waiting decades for government assistance. Backyard rentals are overcrowded. Informal settlements continue to expand.

Desperation doesn’t always look reckless. Sometimes it looks like a mother trying one last option. HER INTERVIEW VIDEO IS ATTACHED AT THE END OF THIS ARTICLE

A Final Thought

She may be trending today. Tomorrow, it will be someone else. Behind every viral clip is a story we rarely pause to hear.

Was she wrong? Was she desperate? Was she misled? We’ll let you be the judge. But before you laugh, ask yourself one question:

If your mother had no house… and R10,000 felt like her only chance… what would you want her to do?
