Glen Gabela’s Heartfelt Plea for Help Amid Financial Struggles

Johannesburg, South Africa – Former Uzalo actor Glen Gabela, known for his role as Pastor Mdletshe, has made an emotional appeal for donations after falling on hard times. In a viral video shared on social media, the veteran actor tearfully revealed his dire financial situation, showing his nearly empty fridge containing only containers of water.

“I want a decent life, to be treated with dignity like every normal person. That’s why I am reaching out. I’m trying to engage with people because I want to grow the film industry, so that young and upcoming performers don’t end up like us… It’s hard for me to ask for help. That’s all I need, just to live decently, I don’t need to be rich,” Gabela said.

Gabela’s plea highlights a broader issue in South Africa’s film industry, where veteran actors like Nandi Nyembe, who recently passed away, and others such as Pebetsi Matlaila, Dr Malinga, Zahara, Brenda Ngxoli, Carla Radebe, and Vusi Thanda have also publicly shared their financial struggles. Nyembe, aged 55, spoke of spending R88,000 on her son’s medical care, leaving her unable to afford medical aid. These stories underscore the systemic challenges facing aging artists in the industry.
