The Eersterust community has been left reeling following the death of 26-year-old traffic warden Taymin Platt, who was allegedly stabbed during an argument at a residential complex.
The fatal incident reportedly occurred on Saturday night while Platt was spending time with friends in the parking area of the complex.
According to police, a man approached Platt and an argument reportedly broke out between the two. The confrontation allegedly escalated, with the suspect accused of stabbing Platt multiple times before fleeing the scene.
Emergency assistance was sought and the critically injured 26-year-old was rushed to Mamelodi Day Hospital for medical treatment. Despite efforts to save her, Platt later succumbed to her injuries.
Following her death, police opened a murder case and launched a search for the suspect.
The man, identified as Chazlon van Zeeberg, was subsequently handed over to police by his father. He was arrested in connection with Platt’s death and later appeared before the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court, where he faced a murder charge.
He remains in custody as authorities continue investigating the circumstances surrounding the deadly confrontation. The allegations against him have not yet been tested in court, and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
Platt worked as a traffic warden for the City of Tshwane and was reportedly attached to the city’s Cable Theft Unit.
