Vee Mampeezy’s Brush With Death: The Day He Collapsed From Suspected Food Poisoning

Botswana’s beloved musician Vee Mampeezy has opened up about the terrifying moment he collapsed and was rushed to hospital after what doctors suspect was food poisoning.

The incident happened on the morning of fellow artist ATI’s burial in Lerala, a day already heavy with grief for the country’s creative community. Vee, who had planned to drive from Gaborone to attend the funeral, suddenly fell gravely ill before he could make the trip.

At first, he thought it was stress or fatigue. But within hours, his body gave in—sweating, vomiting, and trembling uncontrollably. His partner, Sphalaphala, rushed him to hospital as his condition worsened.

Once there, Vee recalls slipping in and out of consciousness, describing an out-of-body experience where he watched doctors and nurses working frantically to save his life.

“I felt my spirit lifting,” he said. “I could see Sphalaphala crying, the machines flashing, the nurses moving quickly—but I wasn’t afraid. I felt calm, like I had left the pain behind.”

In vivid detail, Vee describes entering a place of “light, warmth, and peace,” where he encountered familiar faces. Among them were the late artists ATI, Gong Master, and Mapetla, all appearing vibrant and full of life. He also claims to have seen Botswana’s late former president, Sir Ketumile Masire, smiling warmly, “like a grandfather welcoming his child home.”

The star says the experience was both surreal and comforting, leaving him with a deeper sense of purpose.

Meanwhile, his management released an official statement confirming that Vee Mampeezy had been hospitalized due to suspected food poisoning and is currently receiving medical care. Out of respect for his privacy, no further details were shared.

All his scheduled appearances and performances have been postponed or rescheduled, with ticket-holders and partners set to receive updates.

“We appreciate the outpouring of support and ask that fans and media refrain from speculation and avoid contacting the hospital or private family members,” the management said.

For now, fans across Botswana and beyond continue to send messages of love and healing, grateful that the star survived the ordeal.
