“3 Minutes Gone”: Skeem Saam Actress Pebetsi Matlaila Opens Up on Near-Death Childbirth Experience

Skeem Saam actress Pebetsi Matlaila has left fans emotional after revealing that she was declared clinically dead for three minutes during the traumatic birth of her daughter, Qhawekazi. The actress, who had been battling preeclampsia, recalled how she lost consciousness just before surgery, only to later learn that both her heart and lungs had collapsed while her daughter was born blue due to lack of oxygen.

“I am told my heart and lungs collapsed after I had fits due to high blood pressure. To this day, doctors still reiterate that our story is one in a million. A true miracle!” Matlaila shared, crediting her survival and her daughter’s recovery to divine intervention and the swift response of medical professionals, whom she described as her “Angels.”

After spending a month in ICU, Matlaila expressed gratitude for her second chance at life, acknowledging the series of challenges she has endured—from the life-threatening childbirth to surviving a hijacking attempt while pregnant. Reflecting on her journey, she admitted that she will never take life for granted again, emphasizing the importance of faith, resilience, and appreciation for every moment.
