Prophet Noma Mzobe has ignited a lively debate on social media after delivering a sermon cautioning Christians about the television programmes they choose to watch.
The preacher’s remarks, which gained widespread attention online on 22 July 2026, centred on the popular South African drama series The Polygamist. During her address, Mzobe argued that born-again Christians who watch shows containing explicit adult content are putting their spiritual lives at risk.
Speaking to her congregation, the prophet said believers are called to live differently from the world and should avoid entertainment that promotes values contrary to their faith. She further claimed that knowingly watching explicit scenes places Christians in spiritual compromise.
Mzobe also criticised discussions surrounding controversial television shows, warning that even participating in conversations or chat groups that focus on scandalous storylines is inconsistent with Christian teachings.
A video of the sermon, shared on X by user @Lord_Ori_, quickly went viral and divided opinion among South Africans.
While some social media users supported the prophet’s message, arguing that Christians should be careful about the content they consume, others dismissed her comments as overly restrictive and out of touch with modern entertainment.
One user questioned how the prophet knew about the show’s content if she had not watched it herself, writing:

Another commenter argued that watching a fictional drama is not sinful, although certain behaviours portrayed on screen could influence viewers negatively.

However, critics expressed frustration, with one social media user saying the remarks were an example of why they had distanced themselves from organised religion. Another joked that, according to some Christians, there would soon be nothing left to watch on television.
