Thabo Bester’s name is once again dominating headlines — this time not only because of his trial, but because of whispers surrounding his former girlfriend, Dr Nandipha Magudumana.
The pair, whose shocking love story and daring prison break will soon be retold in Netflix’s highly anticipated documentary Beauty and the Bester, are once again at the centre of controversy.
Bester Raises Concerns
Speaking through his legal advisor, Bester revealed he is “troubled” by the upcoming documentary and the way it portrays both him and Magudumana.
His lawyer told eNCA that the convicted rapist and murderer feels dehumanised by how the series depicts him, claiming it equates him to “a beast.” But what seems to weigh most heavily on him is how the show could impact Magudumana.
“[Nandipha] is his primary concern,” the lawyer said. “His spirits are down. He doesn’t like being the subject of headlines.”
The two have filed an urgent High Court application to stop Netflix from releasing the documentary this Friday, hoping it will be postponed until after their trial begins on 10 November at the Bloemfontein High Court.
Rumours Fuel the Fire
Amid the legal battle, fresh rumours have surfaced online suggesting that Magudumana is pregnant while behind bars. Some Facebook pages even claimed she is four months along with her third child and that a senior officer at her prison had been placed on special leave.
Reports further alleged that Bester was furious after hearing the claims, with one viral post stating: “He is breathing heavy fire after hearing the news.” Others even suggested he was preparing to sue the Department of Correctional Services over the matter.
Department Responds
But the Department of Correctional Services has moved quickly to dismiss the rumours, calling them outright “fake news” on their official X (Twitter) account.
Despite the denial, the speculation has not slowed down. Instead, it has only added more drama to the couple’s already chaotic story — a tale of love, crime, and betrayal now being watched closely by the whole of South Africa.
For Bester, the spotlight may be unavoidable, but for Nandipha, the real question is whether the rumours will follow her into the courtroom when her trial begins.
