Tearaway hip hop artist Shebeshxt is once again making headlines for all the wrong reasons — this time accused of shooting a motorist in a violent road rage incident in Polokwane, Limpopo, on Tuesday night.

The victim, who was shot in the solar plexus, is reportedly in critical condition at a local hospital’s intensive care unit.
According to police sources, the altercation began after a heated exchange between Shebeshxt, whose real name is Lehlogonolo Katlego Chauke, and another motorist over reckless driving on one of Polokwane’s busy streets.
Witnesses say the confrontation quickly escalated when both men pulled into a nearby filling station.
“Shebeshxt parked his car, and the other driver followed him in,” said one witness. “They both got out, shouting at each other. Moments later, a shot went off.”
The witness claimed the musician, who is known for his hit single Ambulance, allegedly pulled out a firearm and shot the motorist at close range before fleeing the scene.
“The man dropped to the ground immediately,” said another bystander. “Shebeshxt just walked back to his car, got in, and drove off like nothing had happened.”
The wounded motorist was rushed to a nearby hospital by onlookers who say they feared he would not survive.
Police confirmed that a case of attempted murder has been opened at the Westenburg Police Station.
“We can confirm that police in Westenburg are investigating an attempted murder incident that happened on 19 October 2025 in Polokwane,” said Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba.
Ledwaba said Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has instructed the Murder and Robbery Unit to take over the investigation.
“The police have a person of interest, and investigations are continuing. When the process is complete, necessary actions will be taken,” he said. “An arrest is imminent.”
Sources close to the investigation told Sunday World that the 28-year-old rapper was handed over to police by his legal team on Thursday. He was reportedly detained — but not for long.
Shortly after his arrest, detectives from the provincial police headquarters allegedly arrived at the Westenburg station, removed the case docket, and ordered his release, saying the case was being transferred.
“The family of the victim is furious,” said one insider. “They don’t understand how someone accused of such a serious crime can be released so easily. They are saying if police don’t act, they will take matters into their own hands.”
The alleged shooting has reignited public debate around Shebeshxt’s history of run-ins with the law. Known for his fiery temper and street-tough image, the rapper has built a reputation that often blurs the line between performance and reality.
In June, Shebeshxt was involved in a car accident that killed his daughter and left him with serious injuries. The tragedy sparked national sympathy — but critics now say his latest actions could undo any goodwill he gained.
The “Ambulance” hitmaker, whose music blends satire, street slang, and social commentary, has long courted controversy both online and in public. His aggressive persona and chaotic lifestyle have earned him a cult following — but also constant brushes with trouble.
Police sources say investigators are now examining CCTV footage from the filling station to determine exactly what happened that night.
“There is clear video evidence,” one officer said. “We can see both vehicles arriving and the confrontation that follows. It will form a crucial part of the investigation.”
Authorities are also verifying the legality of the firearm allegedly used in the shooting.
“If the gun is not licensed, or if it turns out he shot in anger and not self-defence, he could be facing years behind bars,” the officer added.
The victim’s family, who have chosen not to be named, say they are “devastated” and are calling for justice.
“Our son is fighting for his life, and yet the man who did this is walking free,” one relative said. “If this is how justice works in South Africa, then we have no faith left in the system.”
The incident has also stirred outrage among social media users, many of whom are demanding Shebeshxt’s immediate arrest. Others, however, insist that the full story must come out first, arguing that the rapper may have acted in self-defence.
Police have urged the public to remain calm as the Murder and Robbery Unit continues to piece together what happened.
Ledwaba said the investigation is being treated with urgency.
“The team is tightening loose ends,” he said. “We are confident that once all evidence is gathered, the matter will proceed through the proper legal channels.”
For now, the rap star remains under scrutiny, and the outcome of the investigation could determine not only his freedom but also the fate of his turbulent career.
As the victim fights for his life and the community calls for accountability, the spotlight once again turns to a familiar name in South African music — one whose rhythm and rage continue to collide in the most destructive ways imaginable.
At the heart of it all, one question remains: did Shebeshxt pull the trigger out of fear — or fury?
