Brakpan Police Sergeant’s Deadly Rampage Shocks Community

Brakpan, Ekurhuleni – A tragic shooting in Brakpan North’s Sheerwood Gardens on Monday evening, August 26, 2025, has left the community reeling after 40-year-old police sergeant Siboniso Brian Mngadi allegedly killed his wife, Lungile Cornelia Mngadi (Mbatha), and injured four family members, including two children, before taking his own life. The incident, reported around 20:00 on McMillan Street, has prompted a thorough investigation by authorities.

Police and a private security guard responding to gunfire found three women with gunshot wounds, one of whom, Lungile, was declared dead at the scene in the bedroom with multiple injuries. The wife’s mother and a domestic worker were also hurt, while two children aged 15 and 13, belonging to Mbatha’s brother, escaped to a nearby house on Walkden Street after being shot. The injured were rushed to hospitals for urgent care, but Mngadi was absent, later confirmed to have died by suicide.

The motive remains unclear, though reports suggest a domestic dispute preceded the violence. The community, previously describing Mngadi as a gentle figure, is grappling with the shock, as authorities work to piece together the events leading to this devastating loss.
