Peoria, Illinois – A 25-year-old mother suffered severe facial injuries when her family’s rescue pit bull attacked her while she was unconscious from an epileptic seizure on March 2.

Karma Davis, of Peoria, collapsed on her kitchen floor during the seizure. The family dog, Fayzo, a pit bull the family had owned for four years after rescuing it from an abusive home, mauled her face extensively.
Davis lost both lips, a large portion of her left cheek, the bottom of her nose, and part of her left ear in the attack. Her right ear was partially torn but was later reattached by surgeons.
While unconscious, Davis has no memory of the incident. She woke up in shock and managed to contact her fiancé, Trenton Davis, who was at work. She first messaged him via iPad, then video-called him. During the call, both realized the extent of her injuries.
“I kept saying, ‘Fayzo ate my face. I look like a skeleton. My lips are gone,'” Davis recalled.
She was rushed to the hospital and placed in a medically induced coma for nearly three days. She has since undergone multiple reconstructive surgeries and continues regular visits with plastic surgeons. Due to her injuries, she is currently unable to eat normally and relies on a G-tube for nourishment.
Fayzo was removed by animal control and euthanized following the attack. Davis has expressed sorrow for the dog, noting its difficult past, but admitted she would not feel safe having it back in the home.
The family, including their young child, now faces significant medical and financial challenges. Davis has launched a GoFundMe campaign to support her recovery, medical bills, and family needs.
This incident has drawn attention to the risks associated with certain dog breeds and the challenges faced by epilepsy patients during seizures.
