PIETERMARITZBURG, South Africa – A 33-year-old woman and her one-year-old daughter were reportedly shot and killed during a violent home invasion in Woodlands, Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal.
According to information circulating on social media, the victims have been identified as Linganisile Sithole, originally from Msinga, and her one-year-old daughter, Anothando Sithole.
The reports allege that four armed suspects forced their way into the family’s home before allegedly shooting the mother and child while they were in bed. Both victims died at the scene.
A young boy, believed to be Linganisile’s son, reportedly survived the attack despite being shot three times. According to the reports, the child had been sleeping on the floor when the shooting occurred and was rushed to hospital for treatment. His current condition has not been officially confirmed.
It has also been reported that Linganisile had recently begun working at a local hospital and had been in her new position for less than three months before the tragic incident.
At the time of publication, South African police had not issued an official statement confirming the identities of the victims or the circumstances surrounding the shooting. The motive for the attack also remains unknown.
