Heartbreaking Tragedy in Dobsonville Gardens: Father Mourns Loss of Son

Dobsonville Gardens, Soweto – A father, Melusi, has been left devastated after his two-year-old son was allegedly killed by the child’s mother in a horrific incident in Dobsonville Gardens, Soweto. The tragedy has shocked the community, leaving many grappling with the senseless loss of such a young life.

According to Melusi, the incident occurred on Saturday night when the mother allegedly strangled her son inside her car while playing loud music. After the act, she reportedly left the scene, leaving the child in the car, and turned herself in at a police station.

“On Saturday night my one and only son was brutally murdered by his mom, who carried him for nine months 💔🍼😥😡. She strangled him to death inside her car while playing loud music in Soweto (Dobsonville Gardens). She then left the scene, the child in the car, and went to the police station to hand herself over 😭😭,” Melusi shared in a heartbreaking statement.

The innocent boy, who had just begun attending crèche, was described by his father as a bright light whose life was tragically cut short. Melusi expressed his profound grief, stating that he was looking forward to watching his son grow and thrive in this new chapter of his life.

“Ngilimele, ngilimele 💔😭… it’s like I’m dreaming. I’m weak mentally, physically, psychologically, and spiritually. I need help. I can’t comprehend this whole situation 😣💔🍼,” Melusi wrote, conveying the depth of his pain and disbelief.

ABOUT THE INVESTEC HIGH SCHOOL BURSARY PROGRAMME

Investec is inviting high school students to apply for the High School Bursary Programme, for the 2026 academic year.

The bursary is open to students entering Grade 10, Grade 11 and Grade 12 in 2026. The bursary is mainly aimed at Grades 10 to 12 students from township and rural schools, who show good academic potential, particularly in the fields of Mathematics and Physical Science.

Students will be selected based on financial need and academic potential.

The purpose of the programme is to encourage the youth of South Africa to further their studies, which will hopefully result in them positively contributing to the economy, as well as the development of the country and becoming active participants of society. Each year Investec provides bursaries via their High School Bursary Programme, to deserving youth.

Selection will take place between December 2025 and March 2026. StudyTrust will communicate with the candidates school or with the applicant, via email, on behalf of Investec.

Applicants are NOT guaranteed a bursary if they meet all the requirements – it is a competitive award and there are a limited amount of bursaries available.

Students will be funded for the remainder of their high school studies.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR THE INVESTEC HIGH SCHOOL BURSARY

Applicants must satisfy the following minimum entry criteria before applying (please note that failure to satisfy all the requirements will lead to your application not being considered):

  • You must be a South African citizen
  • You must be entering Grade 10, Grade 11 or Grade 12 in 2026
  • You must have a strong academic record
  • You must study Pure Mathematics, Physical Science, Accounting and English as subjects from Grade 10 to Grade 12 and show strong academic potential in these subjects

  • You must have achieved a minimum result of 70% in Mathematics (NOT Mathematics Literacy), English and all other subjects
  • You must have proven financial need
  • You must be enrolled at your school for at least 1 year (students will continue studying at their current school, they will not move schools)
  • Your school should have a good performance track record and must meets the following criteria:
  • The school must have a minimum 90% Matric pass rate

  • The school must have a minimum of 80% of Matric students qualifying for university entrance
  • The school must have a minimum of 75% of their students doing Pure Mathematics as a subject
  • The school must have a minimum of 75% of their students achieving at least 50% for Pure Mathematics (NOT Mathematical Literacy)
  • The school must have a minimum of 80% of their students achieving at least 50% for English
  • The school must demonstrate a holistic supportive environment for students
