Khanyi Mbau becomes Iaughíng stock

South African entertainer Khanyi Mbau is once again dominating social media trends after a recent photo of her sparked intense debate across Mzansi.

In a recent social media moment that captured the attention of fans, celebrated South African actress Connie Ferguson extended a heartfelt compliment to fellow entertainer Khanyi Mbau, sparking both admiration and debate.

The exchange took place on Instagram, where Mbau, known for her bold personality and glamorous lifestyle, shared a stunning photo from her celebratory trip to Zanzibar. Ferguson’s simple comment, “beautiful,” accompanied by a heart-eyed emoji, quickly became a talking point among their followers.

The media personality, who has always been open about her cosmetic procedures, found herself at the centre of online chatter after posing for a picture with a fan during a shopping outing. While both women were smiling in the now-viral image, many social media users fixated on Khanyi’s appearance, with some claiming she looked completely different.

Over the years, Mbau has publicly spoken about undergoing skin lightening, rhinoplasty, two bust augmentations, blepharoplasty, veneers, and facial fillers. Her honesty about cosmetic enhancements has often drawn mixed reactions — and this latest photo was no different.

Under reposts of the image, hundreds of comments poured in.

Some users were blunt in their criticism. Lelo Kelo MaKhathide wrote, “I’ve noticed she’s now ugly… she was beautiful before her surgery.” Rebone Sesana Mosoma echoed similar sentiments, saying, “Sorry to say this but she looks horrible, she was more beautiful before this nightmare.”

Fikile M Macaleka added, “Yha she was so beautiful before but now hai angeke,” while Monica Maja said she missed Khanyi’s natural cheekbones.

Others questioned whether it was even her in the photo. Mangconde Omncinci commented, “It’s not Khanyi Mbau.” Ma Kgothi wrote, “This ain’t Khanyi, kea hana,” and Cindi Pru Prudie asked, “Is this really Khanyi Mbau or is it a prank?” Similar doubts were shared by Minnie Asemahle, Velo Thabethe, and Thenjiwe Maphumulo, who all insisted the woman in the picture did not look like the star.

Some directed blame elsewhere. Wendy Nokwanda MaGumede said, “Mina I blame the makeup artist,” while Nena Florel added that the makeup looked heavy and overdone. Shaz Dee suggested she might look better without makeup.

There were also exaggerated and humorous reactions. Sha Ti Kau joked that she looked like “an 80-year-old retired alien,” while Sherzz Dube and Lindz Lindiwe Mkhize reacted with laughing emojis. TA Moyane even joked about what her ID photo must look like now.

A few commenters expressed concern rather than mockery. Sarah Khombo Manganyi wondered whether she was still healing, saying she looked like she might still be in pain. Philisiwe Rebecca Mabuza speculated that she may regret her most recent procedure.

However, not everyone joined the criticism. Popi Prescott defended the actress, saying people should let Khanyi live her life and make her own choices. Mmkl Nizer also struck a balanced tone, writing that while she preferred Khanyi’s natural dimples, “her body, her money, her choice.”

The heated debate also caught the attention of radio personality Sol Phenduka, who previously reacted to her new look with a heartbroken emoji on X, further fueling discussion.

Whether praised or criticised, Khanyi Mbau continues to prove that she remains one of South Africa’s most talked-about celebrities. As the online debate rages on, one thing is certain — when Khanyi posts, Mzansi reacts.
