Teen Killed by Mob in Amaoti Amid Vigilante Violence
Amaoti, KwaZulu-Natal – An 18-year-old boy was brutally executed by a mob of approximately 80 men in Amaoti, KZN, on Sunday, August 24, 2025, after being accused of taking pictures of the group. The mob, armed with pangas, golf clubs, traditional weapons, and firearms, was reportedly searching for suspects linked to a series of murders and robberies in the area. They also allegedly set fire to two homes believed to belong to gangsters.
Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received a call for medical assistance at approximately 11:59 AM and dispatched Reaction Officers and paramedics. Upon arrival, they found the teenager’s body in his yard, with fatal gunshot wounds to his body and head. He was declared deceased on the scene. The victim’s elder brother, who was also allegedly shot and attacked with a panga, fled the scene and remains missing.
According to the deceased’s family, the brothers were seated in their yard when the mob passed by and accused them of photographing their activities. The group then assaulted the siblings, resulting in the teenager’s death. Police are investigating, and RUSA is appealing to the public for information to assist in identifying the perpetrators.
