Hammanskraal, North West – Thabiso Seema, the father of Kgaogelo Nnonu, who was allegedly killed by her ex-boyfriend Mfana Ngwenya on Thursday, has called for the perpetrator to be permanently imprisoned. Speaking to IOL, Seema expressed his grief over the loss of his daughter, whose life was tragically ended in a violent attack.
Seema was informed of his daughter’s death on Thursday morning. He revealed that a protection order was in place against Ngwenya, who had been stalking Nnonu. “In the affidavit, she wrote that he had threatened to pour petrol over her mother’s house and set it alight,” Seema said.
Describing Ngwenya as a danger to society, he urged authorities to ensure the 26-year-old suspect remains behind bars. “I want justice. I think they should throw away the key to his cell. That guy must never come out because he also went to attack another girl. This is not someone who should be in the community,” he stated.
Seema described his daughter as introverted, respectful, and kind. “She would listen to me when I spoke to her, and she was humble,” he said. Unaware of Nnonu’s relationship with Ngwenya until after the incident, Seema shared that the family had been planning to send her to the Northern Cape for school. “I am beyond shocked to hear that she had a boyfriend,” he said. “According to witnesses, she was stabbed around 1am.” He noted that the relationship had ended in February.
Sabrina Walter, founder of Women For Change, condemned the killing, which occurred during Women’s Month. “Most disturbing is that, once again, a man felt so comfortable in his violence that he filmed her lifeless body and posted his confessions on social media,” Walter said. She criticized the persistence of such graphic content online, calling it “deeply disrespectful” and harmful to grieving families and communities. Walter added, “A time meant for honouring women has instead become another reminder of their daily brutalisation in a country that continues to fail in protecting them.”
Police spokesperson Colonel Adéle Myburgh confirmed that Ngwenya was arrested in the early hours of Friday in Carousel View near Maubane. “The suspect allegedly murdered his ex-girlfriend and attempted to kill his current girlfriend,” Myburgh said. The surviving victim is receiving medical treatment at a local hospital. Ngwenya reportedly posted his motives on social media following the incidents.
Ngwenya is scheduled to appear in the Temba Magistrate’s Court on Monday, August 25, facing charges of murder and attempted murder.
