Five employees linked to Hezy Motors Logistics have appeared in court facing allegations of defrauding clients of more than US$155 000 in a vehicle import scam that left several customers without the cars they paid for.

The accused — Kelly Moyo (19), Melody Karakupa (29), Bridget Tanyanyiwa (27), Paidamoyo Sunhwa (25), and Pamela T. Zambe (35) — appeared before Jesse Kufa at the Harare Magistrates’ Court on charges of fraud and defeating or obstructing the course of justice.
The five were each granted bail of US$200 and the matter was postponed to June 26 for further proceedings.
According to the State, represented by prosecutor Rufaro Chonzi, the alleged fraud took place between January 2025 and May 5, 2026.
Prosecutors claim that Hezy Motors advertised widely on social media, promising clients that it could import vehicles from abroad on their behalf. However, investigators allege the company did not have the financial or operational capacity to fulfil the orders despite continuing to accept payments from unsuspecting customers.
The court heard that several clients, including complainant Julia Mude and 15 others, paid large deposits for vehicles that were never delivered.
Authorities further allege that the accused employees continued carrying out instructions from company director Hezel Mafu, who is reportedly being sought by police, even after becoming aware that she was under investigation.
The alleged scam reportedly left victims counting losses amounting to more than US$155 000, with police investigations still ongoing.
