In the footage, mourners can be heard murmuring in shock as the pastor thanks God for bringing his girlfriend into his life. He then says he wants to “heal her heart” and help her move forward from her father’s death.
According to the Central News Agency (CEN), the pastor — who was also presiding over the funeral service — told the congregation that his proposal was meant to “turn her pain into joy” and show that “love conquers even death.”

“There is a time to comfort and a time to celebrate. A funeral is not a stage for romantic gestures,” Maluleke said.
He added that while grief can heighten emotional connections, it’s vital for spiritual leaders to exercise restraint. “The role of a pastor is to console the brokenhearted, not to become the headline,” he said.
