Who Was Katlego Makuwa?
Katlego Makuwa was a first-year Engineering (N4) student at Westcol TVET College in Carletonville.
Originally from Kagiso Township, she was remembered by relatives and friends as a respectful, humble and hardworking young woman who had recently begun pursuing her dream of furthering her education.
She was living in private student accommodation on Beryl Street in Carletonville while attending college.
Tragic Incident at Student Accommodation
Katlego was found deceased inside her room at the student residence.
Authorities indicated that she had suffered multiple stab wounds. Investigators also alleged that she had been subjected to a serious sexual assault before her death.
Police launched an investigation immediately after the discovery.
Caretaker Arrested
Police arrested the caretaker of the student accommodation shortly after the incident.
He faces charges including murder and s*exual assault in connection with Katlego’s death.
As with any criminal matter, the accused remains presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
Court Case Continues
The suspect first appeared before the Oberholzer Magistrate’s Court in June 2025.
