Eight Taxi Drivers Arrested for Harassing Pregnant Woman at School

South Africa – A pregnant woman faced a terrifying ordeal earlier today, August 27, 2025, when eight taxi drivers allegedly surrounded her vehicle at a school in an attempt to force her out while she was picking up her children. The drivers reportedly demanded that her children use a taxi instead of being driven home by their mother, escalating tensions in a confrontation that could have endangered both her and her unborn child. The woman’s quick thinking and the rapid response of the Flying Squad led to the swift arrest of all eight individuals.

The incident unfolded when the woman, remaining calm under pressure, requested “two seconds to make a call” and contacted the Flying Squad. Within minutes, police and traffic officials arrived, detaining the drivers for unlawful interference and intimidation. Eyewitnesses praised the mother’s composure, with one parent noting, “She could have panicked, but instead she handled it wisely. If she hadn’t called the police, the situation might have ended badly.” The drivers now face charges that could lead to up to 10 years in prison.

This incident has reignited concerns about aggressive tactics within the taxi industry, with reports of drivers attempting to control commuter routes and restrict private car use. Community members and parents have expressed outrage, emphasizing the need for stronger regulation. The arrested drivers remain in custody, and police have vowed to pursue justice vigorously, reassuring the public that such harassment will not be tolerated.
