Breaking News: Thembi Shakoane Arrested in Connection to Thapelo Mgiba’s Death
Middleburg, South Africa – Thembi Mantwa Shakoane (44), the woman believed to be responsible for the death of 17-year-old Thapelo Mgiba, was arrested this afternoon at Middleburg Plaza while traveling to Pretoria. The arrest follows the discovery of her missing son, Mpendulo, who was found hospitalized at Tshwane Hospital. Shakoane is accused of fatally stabbing Mgiba and wounding his mother, who remains hospitalized.
According to sources, Shakoane was identified by a taxi passenger traveling from Nelspruit, who alerted a relative in the police force, leading to her swift arrest at the Middleburg Plaza toll gate. She cooperated fully with authorities, carrying only a cellphone, Mpendulo’s birth certificate, and a small amount of money. Shakoane requested to contact her sister to care for her son during her detention.
“We have finally arrested the woman, and we believe the Mgiba family will feel some relief, although it’s painful to lose a child. She will be kept in police custody until her bail hearing,” said Police Spokesperson Sergeant Maile.

August 26, 2025 – The South African National Parks (SANParks) is calling on unemployed South African graduates aged 18–35 to apply for its 2025 Finance Internship Placement Programme at Table Mountain National Park in Tokai, Western Cape.
This initiative offers a unique opportunity for young professionals to gain hands-on experience in financial management, logistics, and related fields within one of South Africa’s premier conservation organizations. Applications close on August 28, 2025.
Programme Overview
The SANParks Finance Internship Programme is tailored for graduates who have completed their N6 Certificate (18 months theoretical component) at a South African TVET College or Public Higher Education Institution (HEI). Running until March 31, 2027, the programme provides practical workplace exposure in a dynamic environment, equipping interns with the skills and experience needed to advance their careers in finance and related disciplines.
Interns will receive a monthly stipend of R3,728.90, offering financial support while they develop professional competencies. While the programme is a valuable stepping stone, SANParks is not obligated to offer permanent employment upon completion.
Available Fields and Allocations
The internship programme offers two positions in the Finance Division at Table Mountain National Park, focusing on the following fields:

Internship Requirements
To be eligible, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Be an unemployed South African citizen aged 18–35.
- Have completed an N6 Certificate in Financial Management, Logistics or Supply Chain Management, Internal Auditing, or Business Management at a South African public TVET College or HEI.
- Have no prior employment or participation in an internship or placement programme.
- Be able to provide certified copies of academic qualifications, transcripts, Matric/Grade 12 certificate, and ID.
Stipend and Conditions
Successful candidates will receive a monthly stipend of R3,728.90 to support their participation in the programme. Applicants from outside the Tokai area are responsible for arranging their own accommodation and transport, as these are not provided by SANParks.
